Peppol's Background And History The inventor of Peppol is theAssociation Open PEPPOL. In 2008, the PEPPOL project was initiated. It was funded as a pilot project both by the European Commission and by members of PEPPOL Consortium. Peppol e-invoicing purpose was to simplify cross-border electronic procurement. All European governments have developed technical standards to allow direct electronic communication between European agencies and companies for procurement purposes. This is how the acronym "PEPPOL", which stands for Pan-European Public Procurement on-LineIt. This acronym was eventually replaced by the brand name " at the end of 2019. Peppol", now standing for Global e-procurement.
